Frequently asked questions

Treatment with water can have different effects on the systems of the body; and this depends on the temperature and mechanical impact.

Water has the ability to store and transmit heat. The heat of the water has a noticeable, fast and direct impact on the vital functions of the human body.

  • Water improves haemodynamics via the receptors in the skin (blood flow in the cardiovascular system) and circulation.

Due to the mechanical impact that water has on the body and certain qualities (viscosity, buoyancy, resistance, pressure), it reduces the load effect on the joints, decreases muscle tone, increases movement amplitude, the body becomes lighter and partial weightlessness is experienced. Active and passive therapeutic exercises are considerably easier and often pain-free when done in water, and they help to strengthen the muscles, increase joint and spinal mobility, aid better tolerance of physical workloads, improve endurance and reduce pain.

Water treatments boost the body’s adaptive responses, metabolism and the immune system.

Due to its positive effect on the central nervous system, tension, irritability and the impact of stress on the body are reduced and the sense of emotional wellbeing is increased.

A hydrotherapy treatment schedule is prepared for each patient individually (usually as part of an individual rehabilitation programme), depending on their health problem, general health condition and the aims of treatment.

Water treatments can be prescribed for pain management, strengthening of the immune system, treatment of mobility, respiratory, circulation, digestive, metabolic, mental and other conditions, as well as for their prevention.

The doctor and a member of the rehabilitation team who will perform the procedure (physical or rehabilitation nurse or kinesiotherapist) will explain the course of treatment and inform you about the duration and possible sensations.

If you have been prescribed whole body immersion treatment, such as baths, hydro-kinesiotherapy etc., we recommend avoiding heavy foods for 1.5–2 hours before the procedure and having a light meal no later than 30–40 min before the treatment.

For your own safety we ask you to inform the doctor and the hydrotherapy specialist about any medicines that you are taking (especially if you are taking medicines for heart rhythm, blood pressure, mental conditions, epilepsy, insomnia, anxiety etc.), your current conditions and disorders.

Hydrotherapy procedures will not be performed if:

  • The patient is under the influence of alcohol, drugs or other psychotropic substances;
  • The patient has a skin fungal infection, he (or she) has open sores, has a fever or is suffering from any acute conditions.
  • The Rehabilitation Centre provides towels, hairdryers and lockers for your personal belongings.

The Rehabilitation Centre provides towels, hairdryers and lockers for your personal belongings.

We recommend resting for 20-30 min following the hydrotherapy treatment. You can do this in the relaxation zone next to the pool. You will be offered tea and water by the staff.

Patients are advised against sitting upright and driving for at least 0.5 hrs following the vertical bath treatment.

Patients should not do any activity requiring concentration and quick reactions (e.g. driving, sports, work activities etc.) while they are feeling general weakness, sleepiness etc.
