Vitamin K is essential for normal blood clotting, it promotes wound healing, helps tissues renew and enhances the resistance to infections. It is important for normal renal function and reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Together with calcium and vitamin D, it prevents the development of osteoporosis.

Who should have vitamin K test carried out?

Vitamin K test is recommended for those who have hepatic or digestive system diseases, take antibiotics regularly or for lengthy periods of time, or in case of gut microbiota imbalance.

What are the symptoms of vitamin K deficiency?

  • bleeding gums;
  • bleeding wounds that do not heal readily;
  • regular nosebleeds.

How to find out your test results?

  • Your test results will be ready within 20 working days.
    You can pick them up at the reception or, if you wish, we will email them to you.

FAQ (frequently asked questions)

Together with the vitamin K test, we recommend having a vitamin D test carried out, because vitamin K is involved  in bone renewal processes together with vitamin D.

Green leafy vegetables, thyme, sage, marjoram, coriander, cress, hot spices (chilies), cabbage, turnips, asparagus, mustard, beets, dried fruit, olive oil, and rowan berries are all excellent sources of vitamin K. Human gut bacteria also produce large quantities of vitamin K. 

The recommended daily intake of vitamin K depends on a person’s age, sex and weight:

  • For adults – 0.001 mg/1 kg of body weight.
