Nephrology, kidney diseases treatment

Nephrology is the field concerned with kidney structure, function, changes and disease. It is closely related to cardiology, endocrinology, rheumatology and many other fields in examining the risk of chronic kidney disease development. Kidneys are very important organs. By urinary excretion, they filter blood, remove toxins, balance water and mineral substances, produce some important hormones, sustain strong and healthy bones, and control blood pressure.

The most common diseases and illnesses: bladder inflammation, chronic kidney disease, pyelonephritis (kidney inflammation), nepholithiasis, infectious and immune-mediated glomerular diseases, renal tubular disorders, nephrogenic anaemia, kidney cysts, diabetic nephropathy, hypertensive nephropathy, nephrocalcinosis (in children under 1 year old as a result of vitamin D overdose).

Treatment. At our Centre, we consult children and adults, patients who are on haemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis and kidney transplant recipients on ALL kidney disorders. We treat kidney disorders with medication and recommend any necessary physiotherapy.

Kidney disorders often begin without displaying obvious symptoms and, consequently, are diagnosed too late, when the kidneys have already been irreversibly damaged. Therefore, we recommend having kidney lab tests done once a year, so that potential disorders can be detected early and kidney damage can be slowed down or stopped from progressing.

The nephrologist at our Centre can usually determine the condition and prescribe treatment in 1 day.*

*Sometimes for the final diagnosis to be confirmed, an exam which may take more than one day is needed. The doctor or medical staff performing the exam will inform you if this is the case.
